A wonderful but very sad Peanuts movie book
By Daniel Jolley
The Snoopy Come Home movie is probably the most beautiful and is certainly the most touching Peanuts movie of them all, and this book version of the story is absolutely wonderful. As a child, though, I was not completely enamored of this book for the simple fact that there is so much sadness in these pages. For those trying to remember if they know the story or not, just think of the words "No dogs allowed" sung in a low and depressing voice over and over again; if you've ever seen the movie, that should definitely refresh your memory.
The story starts with a little girl named Lila; the poor little dear has been in the hospital for three weeks and is terribly lonely. She writes a letter to her old friend, hoping he will come visit her. That friend is Snoopy. When Snoopy reads the letter, he knows he has to go see Lila. Charlie Brown is crushed and confused when Snoopy leaves, and the feeling is made all the worse by the fact that he had just been lecturing Snoopy about doing his own thing and not appreciating what Charlie Brown did for him. Snoopy has a time getting to the hospital, as dogs don't seem to be allowed much of anywhere. His visit makes Lila happy for the first time in several weeks, but eventually Snoopy must make a decision: Lila wants him to stay with her, Charlie Brown is going crazy with worry, and Snoopy himself is torn as he struggles to make the right decision. Naturally, everything ends happily, but this really is a very sad story in a number of ways. There is much a child can learn from this book, and most children should enjoy all of the wonderful full-color pictures, but this is much more serious fare than your average Peanuts book.

Not the one I was expecting.
By Anne Elliot
I received this book yesterday (6/4/14),I thought
it was the book that inspired the tv movie and
movie book of the same title.
This is just a collection of strips that have absolutely
nothing to do with what the title is about.
Also,I didn't care for how mean Snoopy was to the
birds that visited him.
There was a Peanuts book that I read when I was
very young (about 6 or 7) and it had a very sad story.
It was one of the longest running story strips that I think Mr.Schulz
ever wrote.Although it was quite sad,I loved it because I thought
it gave more dimension to the personalities of Charlie Brown
and Co.
I have read all the Complete Peanuts books starting from 1960
to the mid-eighties but not one have that storyline in them.
There is another strip that is my all time favorite. In it Sally insults
Snoopy calling him a dirty, filthy dog.
Naturally,Snoopy is angry at her and chases her around the house
until he finally "trees" her on the back of an armchair. lol.
None of the so-called complete peanuts books that I have read have
that strip in them either. :\
If you know which paperback copy might have either the sad story or
the very funny "dirty dog" strip in it,please let me know! PLEASE! :)
