About the Author
Barbara Mujica is a Professor of Spanish at Georgetown University and President Emerita of the Association for Hispanic Classical Theater (AHCT). She is specialist in Early Modern Spanish literature who has written extensively on mysticism, the pastoral novel, and seventeenth-century theater. She is also a best-selling novelist whose most recent work is "Sister Teresa", based on the life of Teresa of Avila.

This book has a lot of examples, but it doesn't go into great detail for some of the rules. It is good if you need pracitce with Spanish, however if you aren't already at least a little bit familiar with most of the grammar rules, you might have problems understanding her explanations.

He visto libros mejores

For a book that is supposedly revised (this being the 2nd edition), you would have thought they would have eliminated some of the errors. This book is full of formatting errors that are not only extremely confusing, but also jeopardize your chances of getting the material right for exams. The books that our class bought also fell apart. People had to three hole punch pages and put them in a binder until the bookstore allowed them to get a new one. Also, for a book that is $70 you would think that the publishers could have actually used that money to spruce up the pages alittle. The book is in all black and white (except for green headlines). The ordering of the chapters and the topics they cover also do not make any logical sense at all. The vocabulary sections are also horrendous. The arrows that supposedly point to the word numbered in the lists often do not point to the actual object the word is attempting to describe. If you have any choice in Spanish books, I highly recommend choosing a different book. If you have no choice (i.e. You're school requires this text, keep your old textbooks from last semester and get the book "501 Verbs for Spanish." I would be ashamed of my book if I were Barbara Mujica.

A great text

I disagree completely with the previous reviews. This text is used at the 3000 level of university Spanish to teach advanced grammar and vocabulary, so colored pictures are not necessary since it is not for young learners. The book I bought has been used almost daily for 4 months and is not showing any signs of excessive wear, with the binding and all pages still completely intact. The vocabulary drawings and arrows to the objects are very useful and accurate. The paper is non-gloss making reading very easy in a variety of lighting conditions and the print font(with bold font where appropriate)is very clear. The discussion of grammar and vocabularly is logical, useful, and accompanied by numerous examples. I have studied from many language texts in a variety of languages (French, German, Italian, and Spanish)and rank this one near the top.
