The boyish people who want to impress anyone by thinking turn out to be big losers the harder they fall
By epic phlegm Hooha
The cross examination of the big notions that never solve what is going on is just a matter of sorting out brown chicken, brown cow, for someone who has a boyish interest in being so much smarter than people who consider themselves highly educated. My own introduction to the intellectual types of elites took place at the major universities where the Unabomber got his degrees. I was in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1967 when Ted got a PhD in mathematics. Aside from brown chicken, brown cow, there are many levels of intensity for people who allow themselves to be crazy about how events get sorted out for many wars and weeds in the hundred years that this book never dreamed of.

Chapter 3 of this book considers meaning in history. By 1967, I was familiar with a song by Bob Dylan called

Ballad of a Thin Man

You say: what does this mean?
and he screams back, You're a cow.
Give me some milk or else go home.

Books put a lot of eggs in one basket when the epistemic modalities of what people think get more complicated than:

Anything intentional is individual.

Political thinking is quick to dismiss any idea that is only individual. Some poet thought that anything worth doing ought to be done alone. If someone else thinks they are on your side, a philosopher is likely to remember:

Oh, my Friend: There are no friends.

Simmel has the typical Kant approach to applying ideas about knowledge to things we don't experience fully by making them by ourselves. A science of knowledge would have laws that nobody understands because time is beyond whatever institutions attempt to control time, space money, and when our grandchildren will be living in monetary mushroom clouds. Professionals act like an imaginary friend in many fields, so the autonomous thinkers who have understood Nietzsche vouch for:

An old Chinese said he had heard that when
empires were doomed they had many laws. (Will To Power, section 745).

Back in 1980, I made collapse a key idea in an outline I sent to Walter Arnold Kaufmann, who published a translation of the Will To Power in 1968, the year in which I received a degree from the University of Michigan and was drafted. Anyone who has seen changes should be able to tell the difference between power and wilted two powered lamestreams crashing into each other like pilgrims having a religious collision with people getting trampled to death in September, 2015, when I am living right now.

Epistemic modalities are a fiction created by people who think you need to have friends or get locked up.
